Originally from Minneapolis, Marion lived for a number of years in New York City, where she met and married John J. Woelfel and gave birth to their daughter, Susan. After John's death at age 38, she returned to Minneapolis, where she worked for the Hennepin County District Court, ultimately as the court clerk for Judge Eugene Minenko. After retiring at age 72, she traveled widely, enjoyed entertaining family and friends, and volunteered with the Golden Valley chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

She lived a long, full, and adventurous life. Marion was a wonderful friend, and no one who knew her will ever forget her great sense of humor, sparkling smile, and heartfelt laughter.

Woelfel, Marion May (nee Reagan) Died peacefully in Indio, CA on March 22, 2014, at age 95.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Grace Sauer; and brother, Robert Reagan. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (husband Richard Glaser) of Palm Springs, CA; her dear friend, Gloria Swanson; nephew, Richard Stevenson and wife Carolyn; nieces, Susie Schalker and Sharyn Hedding; as well as great nieces and nephew.

Special thanks to Elizabeth and her staff at Desert Cottages for their wonderful care and concern during the last years of Marion's life. Donations in her memory may be made to VFW Post 7051, Golden Valley.

The staff at Desert Cottages Memory Care is the best. I could not ask for better treatment than what what my husband Jim recieved. He was always treated with such kindness and respect. I would highly recommend Desert Cottages to any family or individual that is searching for an excellent memory care facility. My only regret was not finding them sooner. He was in several facilities until I found the one that he would spend the rest of his life in. I want to say thank you to Liz, Lisa and the wonderful staff for showing such compassion and understanding the Jim, myself and my family.

"The caregivers here are wonderful. They are patient and they work well with vision impaired residents. The food is good. They make homemade soups and offer a variety of snacks during the day. They make sure everyone is dressed and at the table for all meals. The home is extremely clean and they even open the windows when the residents are not in their rooms. I liked that this feels like a home and I am comfortable with dad being there."

The absolute best Memory Care Facility in the area. It is very clean. The staff is pleasant and caring towards residents and families. The management is responsive to the wants and needs of the residents and their family members. The Best decision I made for my husband. Thank you for everything you do!

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to you and all of the others at Desert Cottages for their help in making Emily's last days as good as possible.

When I first went to the facility after she had been there about three weeks, I saw a crew member on the patio massaging a patients foot. That eliminated any possible doubt I may have had about my decision to put Emily there.

Please express my special thanks to Lisa who did all she could to make Emily confortable and happy.

Hildegard "Hilde" Hefftner was born in Nuremburg, Germany on October 12, 1924. She passed away on August 19, 2016 in indio, California.

Hile was an orphan at age 8 and then was taken in by Richard and Karoline Staugh who made her a part of thier family along with thier childer Inge, Irene, and Herbert. Hilde lived through and survuved World War II and was once used as a human shield by allied soldiers. She raised her niece Inge from birth until leaving Germany for the United States. Once in the United States she settled in Los Angeles and proudly became a U.S. Citizen. She often announced to the World that she was no longer German. She was an American. While working in a Dental Lab in Los Angeles she met the LOVE of her life Fred Hefftner. They married in 1959 and remained happily married until Fred's passing in 1999. Hilde and Fred were Avid Golfers and retired to a home in Palm Desert in 1970. They were both memebers of area Country Clubs where they enjoyed spending time with many friends. Hilde loved her family, Niece Inge Blackmore and husband Bill and children Rick and Roger in Texas. Her neice Irene Schope and husband Herbert and thier children Claudia and Harry in Germany. She loved all dogs and kept bags of treats to pass out to the neighborhood dogs as thier owners walked them by her house.

Hilde's family would like to Thank Elizabeth Hengstler, Lisa Hagon and the rest of the staff at Desert Cottages Residential Care home specialized care they provided to Hilde during the last years of her life.

After almost one month at Desert Cottages II in Indio, my husband is doing better and not sleeping so much.

I am very pleased with the care givers and how the home is run. They even have two dogs who visit on a regular basis.

I would highly recommend this facility

Glad I took A Place for Mom's recommendation!

My impression of Board and Care facilities was not positive as having looked at several in a different part of the state.

However, when A Place for Mom suggested Desert Cottages, I did agree to have another look. And I am so glad I did! I was very pleasantly surprised at the lovely home, large backyard with fountain, and very welcoming staff.

My mom has been there for a few months now and is getting great care, so much more than I was able to do by myself.

The home is always immaculate, decorated for every season and holiday. The staff is very warm but also conscientious about medication, meals, and making sure all residents feel comfortable.

I highly recommend Desert Cottages!

"The family and I wanted to thank you for making my father’s last few months as comfortable as possible. I believe that finding a good place where my dad could get the care and attention he needed was a major factor in the family’s overall mental and physical health. My mother has made a full recovery from her serious illness, and the rest of the family have been able to continue with their lives knowing my father was being well cared for rather than us struggling to meet his needs. What a wonderful caring “gift” you can provide to families with your service!"

-Robin Applegarth
“My mom has been at Desert Cottages for several years. She has Alzheimer’s. I am very happy that she is there. The care staff is excellent. Memory care is not easy. However, I find the caregivers and staff to be on top of all things, handling whatever arises, and treating these very special residents with great care and dignity. The food is good variety and quality. I feel my mom is safe, happy and always well put together. I highly recommend Desert Cottages for Memory Care for your loved one. This peace of mind is priceless!”

-Michelle
"Words cannot express our gratitude for all that you do, not only for mom, but for all your residents.

I have had the opportunity over the years to see how other facilities, both large and small are run, and observe the caregivers that work there. I am sure I don’t have to tell you how rare it is to be totally satisfied!

Your homes are immaculate, the caregivers are warm and caring and diligent in their care of each resident. The food is the best. (We should know, as mom tells us often enough!!!)"

-Robin, Donna, Cheryl and of course Mom
"My wife and I would like to express to you our appreciation for your service to her during her recent stay at The Cottages. This was all a new experience for us and choosing a site for her was a challenge. To say we were pleased with you and all your staff would be an understatement. The attention to her needs was our top concern. During her stay there I never was worried about her and looked forward to my visits. I know diet was a big concern and she arrived home a different person than she had been on arrival."
